Finding Efficiency and Innovation in a Data Center Partner
Texas Industries, Inc. (NYSE: TXI) is a Dallas-based company and a leading supplier of building materials, including cement, aggregate and concrete. With operations in six states, TXI is the largest producer of cement in Texas and a major producer in California. TXI is also a major supplier of stone, sand, gravel and expanded shale and clay products, and one of the largest producers of bagged cement and concrete products in the Southwest. TXI customers rely on the company’s materials for residential, commercial and public works construction projects across the country.
In 2008, TXI sought a strategic data center partner to provide support and security for its IT infrastructure in response to growing needs. With rigorous standards for security and uptime and specific requirements with regard to cabling, cross connects, and circuits, TXI's due diligence process was extremely thorough.
"Our company is known for efficiency and innovation, and we looked for the same qualities in a data center. The team at Colo4 was very responsive and receptive to customizing a solution for us," said Len Brown, Director of IT Technical Services at TXI. Brown added, "We conducted an exhaustive search to find a colocation provider that could meet our specific needs and still be cost-effective. We wanted to ensure that we minimize or eliminate downtime, drive performance of our IT systems and keep mission-critical applications and hardware secure."
Colo4 provided TXI with premium data center solutions to support its IT infrastructure. TXI had specific requirements for their move into the data center, from cross connects and cabling to the provisioning of telco circuits. Colo4's technical team created a solution to meet their immediate needs and support future growth. Colo4's technicians used approximately 8500 feet of cat5e cable for TXI's installation. Each partitioned section was tested and precisely mapped to ensure high performance and enable technicians to troubleshoot cable and expand the infrastructure as TXI's needs change.
